About Us

Hearthstone Therapy Services LLC was founded in response to the societal changes that began with the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.  Shortly after the pandemic began people were no longer able to access in-person counseling as various nation-wide quarantines were extended and businesses closed. As the pandemic continued, access to services remained challenging due to post-quarantine concerns of contagion. 

Although online therapy has been around for several years it was not widely utilized until recently as people began to realize the benefits of mental health counseling and the convenience of seeing a therapist online. As a result of the changing attitudes about mental health, and after careful study of the effectiveness of online therapy, it has gained wide acceptance in the psychological and psychiatric communities. Clients continue to consistently report that because access is convenient, they no longer have to travel to appointments, and they can see their therapist in the privacy of their own home, they have been much more willing to give therapy a try. 

At Hearthstone we realized that to accommodate as many people as possible who wished to attend therapy in this digital age we needed to fully embrace the online therapy approach.  In taking on this task, we remain committed to the highest standards of excellence in safeguarding your privacy. The platform we use for client appointments is HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR compliant, all data is encrypted, sessions are completely confidential, and none of your personal information is ever stored online. Our online therapy platform uses AES cipher with 128 keys to encrypt audio/video and HMAC-SHA 1 to verify data integrity. The platform also allows for secure uploading and downloading of documents and file transfers between Hearthstone and their clients. Clients’ personally identifiable information such as intake forms, demographics, and session notes are all electronic documents and they are not stored online, they are stored on a secure external hard drive.

Hearthstone Therapy Services are provided exclusively online by fully licensed therapists who are overseen by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists. To see a Hearthstone therapist clients must be a resident of Oregon and 18-years of age or older.
